Subject
An unusually delicate etching that suggests the imaginary or remembered Burgundian landscape which frequently appears in Legros' late work. A single figure, their face obscured by their hat, hurries towards a simple footbridge in the foreground. Smoke rises in the far distance. The treatment of the trees that frame the view from the left have an artificial sinuousness that leans towards Symbolist aesthetics and Art Nouveau.
