Subject
A Burgundian landscape with a river in the foreground. A small boat crossing the plate from left to right, with a cargo of barrels and two male figures. One figure in the boat steering with an oar while his companion hauls the boat with a rope. In the background a heavily-wooded hillside and buildings. Signed in pencil ‘A Legros’ bottom right.
Printing
The impression is heavily worked. Printing is ascribed to Frederick Goulding on the assumption that Bliss names Goulding as owner of a rare 4th state impression.
History
Purchased at auction from Keys Fine Art Auctioneers, Aylsham, Norwich on 13 June 2016. Conserved by Raymond McChrystal in 2024
