The head of a figure seen slightly form above and isolated against a very dark background. The image is organised around the emphatic chairoscuro, intermediate tones and textures having been largely suppressed. The dramatic effect is further intensified by the large border between the edge of the work itself and the platemark, which is roughly 270 mm on all sides.
